Main Stream: Holy Trinity
The charism of the Sisters of the Most Holy Trinity is the glorification of the Most Holy Trinity through redemptive charity, education, and service to the poor and marginalized. Their spirituality is rooted in the Trinitarian tradition, centering on the love and mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. Sisters live in community, combining prayer and sacramental life with active ministries such as Christian education, catechesis, care for children and youth, and pastoral outreach. Their commitment is to make God’s triune love present through compassionate service and the formation of faith in everyday life.
The Congregation of the Sisters of the Most Holy Trinity was founded in 1762 in Rome, Italy, by Maria Teresa Cucchiari and her companions, inspired to live Trinitarian spirituality through service to the poor and education of young girls. They were originally part of the wider Third Order Trinitarian movement and accepted by ecclesiastical authority as a religious institute dedicated to the redemptive mission of Christ in communion with the Trinity. Over time the congregation developed its own constitutions and apostolic focus, growing in Italy and spreading internationally. In 1920, they established a presence in the United States with a motherhouse near the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in Ohio, and later expanded mission activity to Madagascar, the Philippines, and other regions, engaging in education, healthcare, and pastoral work.
